Battle of Franklin

The Battle of Franklin was a bloody Civil War confrontation with its center just a short distance from the downtown square.

The battle was fought on Nov. 30, 1864, with Confederate forces led by Gen. John Bell Hood throwing themselves against dug-in Union troops. The battle resulted in a decisive defeat and heavy casualties for the Confederates.
