Brentwood grew and prospered and by the time of the Civil War, the area was one of the richest in the state, according to the city history. The area was severely damaged by the Civil War and many homes and plantations fell to ruin. The area gradually recovered and the construction of Interstate 65 in the 1960s brought increased growth and prosperity. The city of Brentwood was established in 1969 and became one of the most upscale suburbs in the Nashville area.

Government


Brentwood is governed by a seven-member city commission. The day-to-day operations of the city are run by a city manager.
