The chronological format is the most widely used, partly because it’s easy to write and many hiring managers often prefer its layout. Its orientation is to arrange work experience in a flowing progression from the most recent to the earliest. Education is arranged in the same way. The resume lists dates, employers, duties and responsibilities, degrees, schools attended and other relevant information. Skills and accomplishments should be included. Typically, an objective is given to explain what the job-seeker wants to do for the employer.
Chronological resumes are best used for individuals with experience in one or two positions and applying for a position within the same career area.
A drawback to the format is that it does not highlight well the most important skills and accomplishments of an applicant.
