Cover Kids

Cover Kids is a state-backed health insurance plan to provide coverage for children who had previously been uninsured.
The program was started after Tenn Care, the state's expanded Medicaid program, was reduced in size because of financial problems. The state's goal was to enroll 40,000 children by the end of June 2009. As of mid-2008, enrollment stood at 24,176.
The program allows enrollment based on income. For example, a family of four earning $53,000 a year or less may qualify.
