The Gulch is a neighborhood found on the southwest of downtown Nashville. Popular boundaries of the approximately 60 acreas are I40, CSX Railway, 8th Avenue and Broadway. It is close to Interstates 40, 65 and 24.
During the Industrial Revolution in the early 1900s the area was a busy railroad corridor and continued to be for decades before experiencing a decline. Some historic buildings are located in or around the neighborhood including Union Station Hotel and the old City Hall that is now closed.
The Gulch was the first neighborhood in the South, and one of the first in the Nation, to become a LEED certified Green Neighborhood. The designation was announced on February 17, 2009.
The neighborhood was undergoing an urban revitalization in 2009 with new or renovated office space, residences and retail shops.However, there were problems with too much Condo Development impacted by the national economic and real estate crisis leading to an oversupply of units.
