Hickory Hollow Mall

    Hickory Hollow Mall is one of five large indoor malls located in Nashville-Davidson County and is situated in the southeastern portion of the county, near the border with Rutherford County.
    Hickory Hollow Mall was plagued by gang activity and reduced store occupancy rates in the late 2000s.
    Dillards, a large department store and an anchor tenant for Hickory Hollow, announced in June 2008 that it would be closing its store in Hickory Hollow. Another department store, J.C. Penney's, previously left the mall. The mall has approximately 428,000 square feet.
    The Nashville Business Journal reported in July 2008 that management of  Hickory Hollow Mall was looking to lease out portions of the building for non-retail uses such as an educational campus, call center, data center, back office, e-fulfillment, institutional agencies and medical uses.
    A similar plan was underway at Hundred Oaks Mall in south Nashville, which was being renovated to accommodate satellite facilities for Vanderbilt Medical Center.
    In 2007, the store occupancy rate at Hickory Hollow Mall was 84 percent, compared to 99 percent at Cool Springs Galleria Williamson County and 97 percent at River Gate Mall in northern Davidson County, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by CBL & Associates, the owner of all three malls.
    In an effort to curb crime, a curfew was imposed in 2006 requiring everyone 18 years and under to be accompanied by a parent in the mall after 6 p.m. each Friday and Saturday.
    Hickory Hollow Mall was built in 1978.
    Other malls in the area include Green Hills Mall, Bellevue Mall and Opry Mills Mall.
