Middle Tennessee has had a healthy market for job seekers in many fields for a number of years. Even during the economic slowdown that began nationally in 2008, there were many opportunties available in the greater Nashville area.
The largest public employer in Nashville is state government, owing to the presence of the state capital. The largest private employer is Vanderbilt University. A large portion of Vanderbilt employees work at the university's medical center.
Other large employers in the area include the U.S. government; Metro Nashville-Davidson County public schools; HCA, which is a hospital management company; Nissan North America; St. Thomas Health Services, which operates a number of local hospitals; GM Spring Hill Manufacturing; Bridgestone America Holding Inc., a manufacturer of tires; and Gaylord Entertainment Co., which operates the Opryland Hotel.
There are a number of free resources for job seekers in the Nashville area.
