Music City Star

music_city_star    The Music City Star is the first effort in the Nashville area in many years to provide mass transit by rail.
The Music City Star, which runs from Lebanon to downtown Nashville, began service in 2006. Its initial ridership goal was 1,400 daily trips, but it failed to meet that goal. By mid-2008, the service was having a financial crisis.

The state of Tennessee offered $1 million to the Music City Star to bail it out of the crisis, but  said that it would only provide the money if Nashville's bus system became involved in managing the rail service. The state also wanted government in Wilson County to put additional money into the service.
The train has stops in Martha, Mount Juliet, Hermitage and Donelson on its way from Lebanon to downtown Nashville. The trip takes about 50 minutes.

There are two free buses that can pick up passengers coming into the River Front Park stop downtown.  One bus will take passengers on a loop around downtown nashville.  The other bus goes up West End and makes stops around the Vanderbilt University campus and Belmont University campus.

I had no idea there was a commuter train in Nashville. I would like to hear what people who ride it have to say about the experience.

This commuter line is not doing so well. What does that say about the future of mass transit in Nashville?
