Old Hickory Lake


Old Hickory Lake, located northeast of downtown Nashville, is home to numerous species of wildlife, including abundant populations of waterfowl and wading birds. It offers many opportunities for boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, hiking and family activities.

Old Hickory Lake features 11 marinas, 55 boat ramps, 11 fishing docks, 70 recreation areas, 279 picnic sites, 264 camping sites, 21 playgrounds, 8 swimming areas and four miles of trails.
Residential real estate is situated convenient to Old Hickory Lake.

Statistics



Formed by the damming of the Cumberland River, Old Hickory Lake covers 22,500 acres of water and features 440 miles of shoreline. 26,386 acres of surrounding land are included in the site, which is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The visitor center is located in Rockland Recreation Area in Hendersonville.

Regulations



Among the regulations for Old Hickory Lake:

• Camping is not allowed on any island on Old Hickory Lake.

• Open campfires are not permitted on the shoreline of Old Hickory Lake. However, portable grills and chimneys are allowed as is the use of fireplaces. All fires must be attended and extinguished upon leaving. Dead wood may be gathered for use as firewood. Live vegetation and standing dead timber may not be cut.
• Hunting is permitted on government property during regulated hunting seasons. Areas where hunting is not allowed include developed parks and recreation areas, commercial marinas, and areas close to private residences.

• Fireworks are not permitted.
