USGenWeb is a noncommercial, free access, volunteer effort to make Internet resources available for genealogical research on a county and state basis, nationwide. The Davidson County site, hosted by Richard White, offers links to online records and resources for Middle Tennessee. Through this site one may link to Web sites for each county in Tennessee.

The TSLA Web site provides a wealth of information. Online resources abound and the site is updated almost daily. Information can be found for County Records, Census Records, Vital Records, Military Records, Maps, Photos, and Manuscript Collections. Be sure to look at the special features: Online Exhibits; Education Outreach, which includes primary source lesson plans; and the Digital Collections, which include TEL, TeVA, the library’s immense photo collection, Tennessee Landmark Documents, and much more.

3. Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society

The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, Inc., or MTGS, is a family history society dedicated to sharing original family and historical information. MTGS is a non-profit organization serving the forty counties of Middle Tennessee and was formed in 1987. The Middle Tennessee Journal of Genealogy & History, published quarterly, includes articles of genealogical and historical interest pertaining to Middle Tennessee. Bimonthly meetings are held in Nashville, Tennessee, on the third Saturday of January, March, May, July, and September.

8. Metro Historical Commission

The Metro Historical Commission is a municipal historical preservation agency working to document history, save and reuse buildings, and make the public more aware of the necessity and advantages of preservation. The commission consists of fifteen citizens appointed by the mayor. It was created in 1966 and has operated with a professional staff since 1973.
