The Parthenon

The Parthenon in Nashville is a full-size replica of the famous ancient structure in Athens, Greece. In some ways, the Nashville version is better because the sculptures around the top of the building are intact, unlike the original in Greece.
Nashville's Parthenon stands in the middle of Centennial Park, near the Vanderbilt University campus just west of downtown Nashville.
Inside the Parthenon is a recreation of the 42-foot statute of Athena that was also a centerpiece of the ancient Parthenon.
Nashville's Parthenon also houses the art museum of the city of Nashville. The focus of the Parthenon's permanent collection is a group of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artists donated by James M. Cowan.1 Additional gallery spaces provide a venue for a variety of temporary shows and exhibits.
The Parthenon was also the setting for a scene from the movie "Nashville," which was about the country music industry in Nashville.
The Parthenon is open year round Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00 - 4:30.  Additional hours during June, July & August: Sundays, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. The Parthenon will be closed on July 4, Labor Day, the Thursday & Friday of Thanksgiving week, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Admission: Members free; Adults - $5.00; Children 4-17 - $2.50 (under 4 free); Seniors 62+ - $2.50. Phone number 615-862-8431.
